Design brief
We were asked to redesign this large emerald and diamond ring because it was far too high for our lovely customer to wear. She loved the gemstones but couldn’t enjoy wearing the ring because of the nature of the setting. The height and the large number of claws around the gemstones meant it caught on material and was very top heavy therefore rolled from side to side on her finger.
These factors became our starting point for the design.
We created several lovely and very different designs for her to choose from, all with much lower settings and also ensuring the Emerald was as protected as possible in a rubover setting, where this beautiful gemstone is set with walls around the sides that completely encase the edges of the gemstones giving it much more protection from day to day wear and tear. We also think that this style of setting for this cut really emphasises the shape, much mor that a claw setting would, by hugging the contours of the gemstone. We loved creating these designs.
We presented these designs to our customer and she loved them!
Emeralds are fragile stones, so the setting considerations and the design worked together to create a beautiful new version of the ring which will be able to be enjoyed whilst ensuring the gemstones are as safe as they can be.
Creation
The very first step in the making of the new ring is to unset the gemstones from their original ring. This allows us to appraise the stones and ensure they are in good condition. This ring required the settings to be made individually which allows us to polish the settings before we put the ring together. This results in a lovely smooth finish, and of course, a lot of sparkle!
