Ruby and Sapphire ring

Brief

S came to see us with her grandmothers ruby ring and a ceylon sapphire of her own which she wanted to be made into a ring. We talked through the type of jewellery styles she liked and we decided that the design needed to be delicate, organic and flowing in style, and feature leaves in some way.

Design Inspiration

Each design brief is a one off, and as such it is lovely to create something unique each and every time. The two gemstones were not only different colours but also different sizes, so the challenge was initially to create a design where the two gemstones sat together well. The ring needed to be delicate so I used fern leaves as my inspiration, and designed them with a tiny diamond set in each, winding around the stones – almost hugging each stone.

Gemstones

We used a selection of tiny diamonds to compliment the ruby and sapphire.

Creation

The fine detail in this ring was key. The yellow gold spine of the branch either side required a great deal of skill to perfect. The ring was made in several sections and then skilfully soldered together to create the eye-catching end result.

The result

The finished ring was a triumph. We made it in three parts to enable us to keep the intricate detail intact.
